He sat on his bench in the garden sipping his coffee quietly, enjoying the warm sunshine and the gentle spring breeze. Usaid glanced towards the wall to find that its shadow had disappeared…

Meis Mohammad Thawabteh, 14 — Marah Rabah

Rama was a young, innocent girl who had many dreams, but she always believed that dreams stay dreams, so we should dream and enjoy our dreams even though we know they won’t come true. Rama had a little snow-white rabbit. She would feed it, clean it, and play with it among the trees of the forest near her house.
One day, while Rama was playing with her rabbit, it hid inside a hollow tree trunk and wouldn’t come out. Rama grew a little worried, then decided to go into the tree trunk after it. She crawled inside the trunk. It was dark, but a brilliant light began to appear at the far end. When she reached that light, she found herself on the surface of a pink planet full of beautiful women wearing pink clothes. Everything there was pink: the women, the flowers, the streets, the houses, the trees, the birds — even the water was pink.

Suddenly all the pink women gathered round the rabbit. They were astonished and amazed by its white colour — I suppose they’d never seen any colour but pink in all their lives. They touched the rabbit tenderly and gently, and sometimes held it with great care. When Rama greeted them, they turned to her and smiled, amazed by her red jacket, blue trousers and black shoes. “Are you from outer space?” one of them asked. “Are you an angel?” asked another. “I’m a human being from planet Earth,” Rama answered. “A human? Planet Earth?” asked a third. “Yes. Are all the people on this planet women?” Rama asked them. They said, “Of course. Are there creatures other than women?” “Of course there are. There are men,” Rama answered. The questions poured out: “What are men? What do they look like? Are they pink like us?” She answered, “How would you like to come with me to planet Earth and meet the people who live there?”
Rama says, “And so the women followed me, and we passed through the tree trunk and returned to the forest. We went straight to our house. There the women met my parents and my brothers and sisters. Then we took them on a tour through the streets of the city. They were dazzled by everything: the people, the cars, the buildings, the shops and the signs, even the animals… and the colours.
And from that day on, there have been beautiful pink women in our city. Some of them married men from planet Earth and had extraordinarily beautiful children with lovely pink colours.
